Isabela Onyshko

Isabela, or Bela, is a senior majoring in Civil Engineering with a focus on structural engineering and loves the maths and problem solving aspects of this major. She was born and raised in the small town of Minnedosa, Manitoba, Canada. She spent much of her childhood outdoors splashing through creeks in the spring, building snow forts in the winter and catching crayfish in the local river in the summer. Isabela is of Ukrainian and Portuguese heritage. She’s closely connected to the Portuguese side of her family and passionate about the country’s food, culture and traditions. She can speak some Portuguese and loves to cook traditional dishes from the country.

Growing up, Isabela did a lot of sports, but gymnastics was her passion. She recently retired from the Stanford women’s gymnastics team but continues to follow the sport and will be assistant coaching for the team this year. She also loves to watch other sports like soccer (obligatory being half Portuguese) and figure skating. Isabela is happy to hang out to watch any type of sporting event. In addition to watching sports in her spare time, Isabela loves to do outdoor activities like hiking and canoeing. She also loves to cook, read and travel.  She’d love to hear your travel stories! During the school year you can normally find Isabela working in the Yost dining room when she’s not in class or in the Engineering Quad. If you see her in the dining room feel free to say hi or come do some work with her. Isabela loves to help people, so please don’t hesitate to ask her for help or advice if needed. She can’t wait to meet you all and get to know you!
